Mobilizing communities, parents, and organizations for the prevention of youth substance use and reduction of overall substance misuse and dependency in Monroe County, Tennessee.

 
 
 

WHAT IS PREVENTION?

 

OUR OBJECTIVES

Monroe County data from the 2018 TN Together Survey results states the average age of first alcohol use to be 13; however, the 8th grade participants admitted their average age of first use was even younger at just 12 years old. Survey data revealed 18.5% of Monroe County 12th graders had recently consumed alcohol, and that nearly half of them (44.9%) had consumed alcohol at least one time in their life.

Monroe County data from the 2018 TN Together Survey results states 1 in 5 of Monroe County 8-12 grade students admitted to having recently used an e-cig, e-cigar, or an e-hookah.

Monroe County data from the 2018 TN Together Survey results states 10.4% of 12th graders disclosed that they’ve illegally taken prescription drugs before, and that their average age of first use was 14. The 8th graders reported that their average first use of non-prescribed drugs was sooner at 12 years of age.
