What is Toilet Talks?

What better place to convey a message than to an already captive audience!? Research has shown that information displayed in toilet stalls has been particularly effective in conveying key messages to the public, and in particular, the social norms approach to reinforce positive attitudes and behavior. In August of 2018, the PWC installed holders on the inside door of the stalls of student bathrooms in Monroe County middle schools, high schools, and parks. Throughout the year the insert is changed. Designed to capture students’ attention, issues include inspirational quotes; messaging regarding suicide prevention, substance abuse prevention, & underage tobacco and alcohol use prevention; national prevention weeks/months; and general, overall positive messaging. As of February 2022, 30 issues have been created with over 5,950 copies distributed throughout Monroe County.
